By now, everyone has heard the CEO of Lifelock announced his social security on radio and television as he taunts would be identity thieves. Lifelock GUARANTEED that if you signed up with them, that your identity would be impenetrable to identity theft. I always wondered how they could possibly make that claim. Apparently, someone at the Federal Trade Commission had the same query.
Last month, the FTC issued a fine of $12,000,000 against Lifelock. My favorite quote from the FTC is:
“While LifeLock promised consumers complete protection against all types of identity theft, in truth, the protection it actually provided left enough holes that you could drive a truck through it,” said FTC Chairman Jon Leibowitz.
The FTC again, proves the old addage, if its too good to be true, it probably is.
