GreenPath Debt Solutions is a great place to start. This non-profit company is celebrating 50 years of helping consumers get out of debt. Just so you and I are clear, I have no stake in this company. Indeed, this company is managed and largely funded by the credit card companies themselves. Frankly, I don’t know if they are motivated for political or social reasons to funding GreenPath, but I am glad that they do.
You see, even if a debt collector has harassed you and even if we were able to stop the abuse and get you money, at the end of the day, you are still left saddled with debt that, in many cases, is overwhelming. GreenPath is a great place to start to manage your debt. Their people can help you manage your accounts, frequently saving you late fees, costs and interest. GreenPath can make deals on your behalf with the credit card companies.
I would avoid other credit counseling programs because I have not heard enough about them to vouch for their reliability.
